Yesterday I reviewed the new, limited edition Nestle bars made in conjunction with the Girls Scouts. The textures meld well, the bar isnt too large and is completely satisfying. The listing of qualities below the specs for #41 Candy Coated Chocolates is: The dissolve is smooth and there arent any sharp voids in the boiled sugar base. It also says that its a good source of Vitamin C, but thats only 10% of your RDA in a serving of 37 beans (about 1.4 ounces). All ingredients needed to be non GMO. The bars are made in Canada. Made in a facility with tree nuts and wheat. I didnt care for the intensity, however, I recognize that not all people detect bitterness in the same way. How lovely would it be to have a candy bar that starts with a fluffy plank of nougat and is then topped with some buttery caramel all wrapped up in rich milk chocolate. The wafers are definitely crisp, but the creme filling is grainy and has more of the fake butter notes to it. UPDATE 8/1/2012: I have sent multiple messages to UNREAL on several different addresses. The crunchy shell is crisp and has a great dissolve, depending on your eating style. I dont know if there are plans for 77 different candies in the line, or if theyve gone through 77 different formulas. I did not eat these side by side with the UNREAL #77 for comparison. The wrappers looked a bit like nutrition bars to me from a distance, and I almost didnt notice them, but the line at the drug store was long, so I had plenty of time to stare at everything. That would make the calories per ounce a more believable 134 calories for a chocolate and nut candy bar. Basically, the Reeses has more sugar and less fiber. Its a treat, and in this case, for $1.19 its only 1.3 ounces and 200 calories. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It seems like it would be easy to make a good chocolate lentil with all natural, wholesome ingredient. Candy coated chocolates are so simple, yet so many folks find many of the commercial ingredients objectionable. Theyre based on popular flavors of the seasonal Girl Scout Cookies. It smells like toffee and roasted nuts. Theyre small and well made, each was quite perfect. Its not real chocolate. Though Hersheys now owns the rights to the Ludens candy products (though only makes the 5th Avenue now), Ludens cough drop business is now owned by a company called Prestige Brands which makes products like Cloraseptic, Efferdent and Compound W. (Lets hope they never combine the attributes of all three of those products.) Im annoyed at the marketing and lack of true information (but theyre new and Im still waiting for a response to my email on Saturday). Yup. Nestle and the Girl Scouts have been trying to whip up a fervor over these bars, so be prepared that theyll never come on sale or be hard to find. After eating one I want another but after two Im completely satisfied. Part of what irritates me is their positioning of this candy on their website. There was a lot of zest and that pine-type bitterness along with a biting tang of juice. The bars are pretty small, they consist of two small wafer based bars that clock in at a mere 1.3 ounces for the whole package. I found out that there were better cookies out there, cookies made with real chocolate and more importantly, cookies that were available consistently. (For years I called them Tagalogs, some sort of a misreading where I thought they were inspired by a traditional Filipino peanut cookie, you know, because there were Samoas, I thought there was a series that was all themed for Pacific Islands.). I got this jumbo back because I am obsessed with the pink and purple flavors. I was really surprised with the #5 Nougat Caramel Bar being so low in calories, but figured it was all the protein. The chocolate is interesting, and for the record I tried these without reading the ingredients first, so I noticed that the chocolate was a little different without knowing why. In the case of these beans, they jelly center is the sour part, so the sourness goes through and through. Theyre marked as Kosher, but have no weight listed or a full nutritional panel. (Including a full bag of the miniatures in May.). The bar is very peanutty smelling, roasted and really appetizing. The price is a bit high compared to generic beans but less than half of what youd pay for Jelly Belly. The packaging is black (a heat absorbing color, for the record, which is bad when it comes to chocolate candy) with neon colors and a difficult to read logo.

Its been around since 1923 and pretty much established the Mars candy company. The drops themselves are inside a thick waxed paper sleeve inside the box, which has a tab top closure. This bar is a winner on so many levels. That said, it is different and as an isolated design, its interesting. They not only appear to be stale but they also taste NOTHING like those purchased in the store. Fortification is one thing, but it shouldnt come at the expense of the primary reason Im eating it: for enjoyment. UNREALs chocolate is made in the United States by a family owned and operated chocolate company. They declined to give an actual source. I have still not heard back (and sent another message today). The chocolate is much darker than the standard milk chocolate of Mars, its rich and has a smooth melt on the tongue, though a light bitter note. Sour Mango was also orange, but opaque.
