Sand is prevalent throughout the layout with expansive white bunkering as well as waste areas that are blanketed in pine needles which act as the undergrowth of numerous species of trees and bushes. If you like eye-candy over architecture, you'll rate this higher than Seminole. Calusa Pines should be rated higher. 0 people found this review helpful Was this review helpful?
The green seems easy but is actually one of the speediest ones on the golf course.
I was off and on my way to the golf course at 0805. 0 people found this review helpful Calusa Pines Golf Club is an absolute blast and thats official. This par 4 dogleg right of 436/390 has a bunker at the front middle of the green that catches a lot of balls.

One either has to hit the green or be short front to have a chance for par or better. The course features a lot of raised greens but also lots of short grass, making it playable for almost all levels of golfer. Respond to above review 1 person found this review helpful Best Par 3: 3rd Hole 155 Yards Nicknamed "the shortest par five in the world," missing the green in regulation on the 3rd hole is nearly as penalizing as missing the famous island green 17th at TPC Sawgrass at the opposite end of the state. MIAMI, FL | Enjoy 1 nights' accommodation at The Biltmore Hotel and 1 round of golf at The Biltmore Golf Course. The water should not be in play but one is very much aware of it. Lots of room off the tee but the course really bares its teeth on and around the greens.
Once you get on the golf course, it confirms it. Calusa Pines is for serious players.
Because if he thinks. Was this review helpful? Bunkers are down the left and entire right side. So, considering the total experience, Im going to call it a tie!
", Fantastic experience, the greens are among the fastest I have ever played. Brooks Cruise ship landed at 0700.
Have played sawgrass, all streamsongs, bears, etc, and calusa is the winner by a decent spread. MIAMI, FL | Enjoy 2 nights accommodations at JW Marriott Miami Turnberry Resort & Spa and 2 rounds of golf at Turnberry Isle Country Club - Soffer & Miller Courses. ", Great play, variety, design, very challenging.very fair but difficult greens to hit in regulationperhaps best in Florida", Special place! Any approach shot that misses the bunker short of the green should result in a solid opportunity to go out on a birdie. Great clubhouse, fabulous course, conditioning, caddies, practice area, challenge.
", Wonderful routing with exceptional landscaping.
A round at Calusa Pines is a special treat.
The head pro mentioned they lost 750 trees that opened up vistas and sight lines.
IF YOU ARE A CALIFORNIA RESIDENT AND WOULD LIKE TO EXERCISE YOUR RIGHT TO OPT-OUT OF THIRD-PARTY DATA SHARING, YOU MAY DO SO HERE:DO NOT SELL MY PERSONAL INFORMATION. There is a large swale to the left of the green and behind and the green has a spine in the middle.
Not sure I could play it every day. Calusa Pines sports perhaps the firmest, fastest Bermuda fairways and greens in Florida, rivaled only by the turf at Streamsong. There is also a spine in the green at the point of the bunkers on either side. 0 people found this review helpful Was this review helpful? Calusa Pines is your typical Hurdzan/Fry with wide fairways, raised greens, and gigantic bunkers. With membership numbers set below 300 and a joining fee of around $150,000 Calusa Pines is a high-end facility so get networking and perhaps one day youll be fortunate enough to sample the clubs slippery TifEagle greens.
The planting of more than 100 mature Oak trees alongside indigenous Sable palms and mature pines has created maturity way beyond its 2001 birth date.
ORLANDO, FL | Enjoy 2 nights' accommodation at Tuscana Resort Orlando and 3 rounds of golf at Disneys Magnolia Golf Course, Palm Golf Course and Lake Buena Vista Golf Course. The second hole is a long par 5 of 574/551 going in the opposite direction as a slight dogleg right. Played two days after the club championship and it was absolutely diabolical.
Down the entire left side of the fairway from tee to green is sand. Additionally, due to manufacturing some hills by moving dirt, Calusa Pines also has the more interesting terrain.
My recent visit to the Stadium Course reaffirmed its spot as my favorite Florida course, but CP is a real gem that has some attributes that cannot be matched by the higher volume/less personal experience at TPC. Despite having lost 776 trees in last years hurricane, the course survived at a very high level. The fifth hole is a substantial dogleg right with mounds down the right inside the tree line and sand down the entire right side. Classic clubhouse and locker room and overall feel.
The sprawling clubhouse provides an impressive backdrop across the rear of the green and a great vantage point to watch players try and reach this green in two. Solo games of ping pong back and forth across this green is unflattering commonplace. The green is very tilted right to left and sloped slightly back to front. It bends to the left with a large fronting bunker. Birdie Time: 8th Hole 291 Yard Par 4 The 8th hole is an exciting offering that players should come to licking their chops. Favor the right with your tee shot.
Ranked inside the top 10, 2005.
It is certainly worthy of being considered a top 100 golf course in the USA, although currently there is a bias favoring more natural/less difficult golf courses.
Best in State:Ranked third, 2011-'22. Florida courses often get negative reviews for the lack of elevation or interest.Calusa Pines has lots of elevation and keeps your attention the entire round. 2 people found this review helpful The only structures visible while playing the course are the clubhouse and cottages, a rarity for Florida. Pretty much walking only. This is one of the better short par 4s one will play.

I dont know where he is from, but wherever it is they obviously have strong crack. I had two birdie putts roll off the green into the rough.
", True top 100 course. The dynamite bill alone reached $1m as they blasted through tons of rock to create huge, deep lakes and the fill was then used to create rare Floridian elevation changes. The 18th is a sharp dogleg left that rewards the player that can hit a draw that works against the left-to-right slope of the fairway. The 7th is technically a par 3 and a half hole, playing 250 yards, but it is a beauty. Respond to above review This is among the top 5 courses in the state with a huge demand on accuracy. If you can get there get the gator gumbo soup.
", Great layout. The par 3 3rd does not look too intimidating on the card, but with a small green with deep bunkers left, it still has teeth. Despite the massive bunker complex up the left, plenty of fairway is offered up the center and right sides of the hole to hit which will set up a short chip to the green. Respond to above review Calusa Pines joins the Streamsong courses as having some of the best elevation changes and hole designs in the state of Florida and is unquestionably one of the best courses and clubs in the Sunshine State. One tries to drive as to the left side of the fairway for a slightly better view of the green and as close as possible to the bunker next to the water on the left to avoid a 200- yard shot into a very long, tiered green with hollows in it.
Youll need to befriend a member to get a game here on this intensely private Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry designed layout but persevere because this pine-sheltered course is dynamite.
The 400 plus yard par 4 5th surprised me, as it has large bunkers behind the green. If you did not know better, you would think you were in the Carolina sandhills.
This course underwent a true transformation.
The green sits at the bottom of another small hill and slopes substantially back to front.
Only the most precise iron shots will hold these greens. One has to come in from the center of the fairway because if the tee shot is struck too far left it is a difficult angle requiring a carry over a bunker on the left or one brings the water into consideration.
The elevation change comfortably accounts for a half club difference, and perhaps a full club for some players, so you'll want to adjust accordingly. The bunkers are pretty much gravel. Fifteen is perhaps the best visual hole on the golf course from the tee shot all the way to the green nestled at the bottom of another man-made hill. See other reviews from Jonathan Wilson. Ranked inside the top 5, 2007-'10.
Calusa is also an enjoyable course for high handicaps. Niall, Thanks for the kind words . ", More elevation change than most Florida courses. The par 3 11th also has a predominantly left list to its green.

Tough to get on, but well worth the effort. Big hitters can cut the corner and get home in two to this elevated green.
They haven't missed the mark on anything here. 0 people found this review helpful Was this review helpful? What to Expect: Calusa Pines is the flagship design of Michael Hurdzan and Dana Fry; the duo that is also largely responsible for the design of 2017 U.S. Open host site Erin Hills.
Property was completely flat, the 16th tee is now the highest in the county. Signature Hole: 16th Hole 185 Yard Par 3 This is just a flat out beautiful hole. Some of the most challenging greens I have ever seen on a Championship course.Best golf course in FL not named Seminole. 2021-'22:No. The tee shot needs to thread the bunkers on each side of the fairway with the one of the left running nearly the entire length of the short grass.
The same for the par 5 second, not too demanding.
The par threes were memorable, especially the short third hole. more reviews like this can be found at, I have to say that visitors to Calusa Pines confuse a great CLUB with a great golf course. On a course full of great shot opportunities to execute, the 16th provides the most heroic swing of the day and one you won't soon forget. Huge fairways, beautiful green complexs and perfect bunkers, some of which are extremely penal. PV is a mean golf course with trouble 5 feet off of every fairway so this is a bit different, but no picnic to say the least. Generous off the tee but very challenging on the approaches and fast, firm greens which have severe roll-offs. To Hurdzan/Frys credit the 8th is a short par 4 less than 300 yards. The greens are tough to hit, the aprons around the greens are undulating / punishing and the shaping on the putting surfaces is a massive test.
Recent removal of overgrown vegetation between holes has returned beautiful long-range views to the course and made it more playable.
The few memorable holes are the drivable par 4 and the last par 3. The tenth hole has a green hard against a hill on the right almost hidden from the tee.
The par 4 14th is relatively short. Missing the green long results in one will go down a pretty significant hill. The fairways are generous and there are plenty of bail out areas in bunkers or pine needles.
I find the first hole to be one of the more difficult holes on the golf course, a par 4 of 421/389 with a long bunker on the left to an elevated green positioned on the left and a high, wide bunker fronting most of the green.
Played July 2022. Would suggest to anyone. The driving range is located on the opposite side of the road from the rest of the course and represents one of the few pla, 16th Hole at Calusa Pines Golf Club (185 Yard Par 3), 3rd Hole at Calusa Pines Golf Club (155 Yard Par 3), 9th Hole at Calusa Pines Golf Club (459 Yard Par 4), 18th Hole at Calusa Pines Golf Club (512 Yard Par 5), 8th Hole at Calusa Pines Golf Club (291 Yard Par 4), 12th Hole at Calusa Pines Golf Club (468 Yard Par 4), See additional photos of Calusa Pines Golf Club. Those elevations changes are totally manufactured through the development process of the course but you would never know it given the natural look and flow of the course and property. The course is among the best maintained I have ever played. Hideout is not even in the same area code as for the quality of the golf course. Only small knock is high degree of difficulty around the greens for most golfers. Course Website: Official Website - Visit Calusa Pines Golf Club's official website by clicking on the link provided.
