The easiest way I found to remove the sides of the forward fuselage is to use a flat-blade screwdriver and remove the balsa tri-stock which is glued in the inside corners of the forward fuselage. A slight release of elevator pressure followed by reapplying some throttle will get the GP Escapade .61 flying again without losing an excessive amount of altitude.

Very nice review Tim. The full-span ailerons on the GP Escapade .61 provide enough roll authority to easily fly two, four, and even eight point rolls and even a fairly nice rolling circle when coupled with high rate elevator and rudder.
It is also a good idea make sure you use a fuel filter. Once the measurements are equal and the tail is square to the wing, use a small bit of thread lock on the lock nuts and secure the tail in place. It did take a little bit of time and some patience for me to get the threaded rods to line up properly so they could slide through the fuselage. Stalls were straight and spins required the simple release of flight controls for recovery. Much like the ailerons, I chose to use two Futaba S3004 servos to handle the elevator and rudder controls. Before you can install your battery packs you have to remove a balsa block which is located in the back of the battery tray.
